Rebel Wave

“This logo represents a passion project my late mentor (and closest friend), Michelle Rivet, and I had envisioned for a long time. After working on several charitable projects together we always dreamed of starting our own. Rebel Wave was an amalgamation of the causes we cared most about: protecting the environment and girls education. Jay created a logo that spoke To the heart of the project – the ocean – which Michelle loved so much. And the two birds which represent her and I. While we never got the opportunity to start the project, the logo will always be a meaningful symbol.”

Sketching

Sketching is a vital step in the process of design. This is where we build on ideas and let the customer decide what designs work best for them. We created several sketches where we experimented with the idea of waves and 2 birds.

Project Specification

When building a brand every detail of the logo is important to the overall feel of the brand. Choosing the right colors and fonts are just as important as the art work.

The clients knew they wanted a wave incorporated in their logo with natural water colors to inspire a positive meaning and represent their company well.

  • Blue represents loyalty and respectability
  • Yellow represents friendly, cheerful, youthful, energy, positivity and happiness.
  • Orange represents energy, prosperity, warmth and change.

For the font we wanted to use something that was inviting/kind and also modern. After consulting with both clients and looking at the different options and how each would look on the design they picked Century Gothic Pro Regular.

There is very special symbolism within the entire logo.

The wave represents the passion and determination to push through the challenges that come with helping others thrive.

The two birds represent our two clients, their life journey together and friendship.

The idea for the birds came from knowing that birds have often symbolized human life and the connection between heaven and earth. This will always represent the love and connection shared among friends even after life.

Final Product

In Loving Memory of Michelle Rivet

“I hope that someday Rebel Wave will honor the courageous life of Michelle Rivet. Michelle was a philanthropist and activist for women and environmental causes her whole life. Her doctorate, which she obtained at Columbia University, focused on sexual assault in the military, and broke the lid off a subject that was not yet discussed openly. She volunteered for several worthy causes, including assisting first responders at ground zero after 9/11, campaigning for Beto O’Rourke, working with Dr Sylvia Earl for Mission Blue, and founding Instruments of Peace which as cultural ambassadors brought the Orchestra Symphonique Kinbaguiste from Kinshasa, DR Congo to Los Angeles to do a surprise performance at TED2013. She lived a life in service of others, having an unquantifiable impact on humanity and the world. Her life mattered.” – Jillian Boardman
